CCSPP Educational Programs and Initiatives

CCSPP offers comprehensive suicide prevention training programs designed for different audiences and settings and delivered by certified trainers.

We believe that everyone can learn to help prevent suicide. Our training programs give you practical skills to recognize warning signs, start supportive conversations, and connect people to professional help. No medical or mental health background required.

Training Programs

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR)

QPR is a 1.5 to 2-hour evidence-based suicide prevention training that teaches participants to recognize warning signs, engage someone who may be suicidal, and refer them to appropriate resources.

Ideal for: Community members, workplace teams, faith communities, volunteer organizations

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)

Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour certification course that teaches how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Offered free to the community through a partnership between the Chester County Office of Mental Health/Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities and CCSPP.

Ideal for: Healthcare workers, educators, HR professionals, community leaders

Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM)

CALM is a practical intervention to increase the time and distance between individuals at risk of suicide and the most common and lethal methods of suicide, particularly firearms. The oldest and most widely-used training on lethal means safety, CALM teaches why means matter and equips individuals with tools to intervene effectively with those at risk for suicide, both upstream–before a crisis hits–as well as in times of crisis. Versions are available for both clinicians and non-clinicians. Learn more.

Connections: Trauma and Suicide

Connections explores the relationship between trauma and suicide, helping participants understand how traumatic experiences can increase suicide risk and how to provide trauma-informed support.

Survivors of Suicide Loss Support Group

Suicide Loss Survivor Grief Support Group

Monthly grief support groups provide a safe space for healing and connection for those who have lost someone to suicide. Facilitated by trained volunteers with lived experience, these groups offer understanding and resources for navigating the complex grief of suicide loss.

Meets:

  • Fourth Wednesday of each month, 6:30-8:00 PM
  • Location: NAMI Chester County Office, 317 Exton Commons, Exton, PA 19341
  • No cost to attend
  • Groups are not intended as mental health treatment but as peer support
Veterans Inititaives

CCSPP’s Veteran Initiatives are dedicated to strengthening connection, reducing stigma, and supporting suicide prevention efforts for Veterans, service members, military families, caregivers, and the broader community. Through community partnerships, education, and Veteran-centered initiatives, we work to ensure those who have served know they are not alone and that support is available.

Learning Life Skills Together (LLST)

Sharing the keys to emotional wellness with our children

With all the changes and challenges of today’s world, we need to pull together to protect the mental health of our kids and teens.

Parents and caregivers, you can make a significant contribution by sharing the life skills you already possess. This free, online program will help you refine your skills and learn how to effectively share them.

The whole course is just five modules of 30-minutes each. And you can take each one in bits and pieces—five minutes at a time, anytime, anywhere. In English or Spanish.
