Veteran Initiatives

CCSPP’s Veteran Initiatives

CCSPP’s Veteran Initiatives are dedicated to strengthening connection, reducing stigma, and supporting suicide prevention efforts for Veterans, service members, military families, caregivers, and the broader community. Through community partnerships, education, and Veteran-centered initiatives, we work to ensure those who have served know they are not alone and that support is available.

Film screening of The Journey Home

As part of our Veteran Initiatives, CCSPP hosts community screenings of The Journey Home, a documentary that follows the stories of local Veterans as they navigate life after military service. Through honest conversations about mental health, identity, moral injury, isolation, resilience, and healing, the film creates an opportunity to better understand the challenges many Veterans face – and the strength it takes to move forward.

Following each screening, CCSPP facilitates a guided community conversation where Veterans, family members, caregivers, service providers, and community members can reflect, ask questions, and discuss ways to better support those who have served. These conversations foster understanding, reduce stigma, strengthen connection, and remind Veterans that they do not have to navigate the journey home alone.
The next screening is scheduled for Thursday, Sept 10th, 6 to 8:30pm at:
Madeleine Wing Adler Theater
817 South High Street
West Chester, PA 19383

Education and Awareness

CCSPP also promotes Veteran-focused education and awareness programs, including VA S.A.V.E. training and the VA Ask the Question Campaign.

VA S.A.V.E. is a brief suicide prevention training that equips community members to recognize when a Veteran may be in crisis, ask directly about suicide, validate their experience, and encourage them to connect with support.

The VA Ask the Question Campaign encourages healthcare providers, agencies, and community organizations to ask, “Have you or a family member ever served in the military?” By identifying Veterans and military-connected individuals, organizations can better connect them with appropriate services and support.

These efforts are rooted in the belief that suicide prevention is a shared responsibility and that small, intentional actions can help Veterans and their families feel seen, understood, and supported.

Veteran Subcommitee

In 2023, CCSPP launched the Veteran Subcommittee to bring together Veterans, community organizations, service providers, and advocates who share a commitment to improving the well-being of Veterans across Chester County. The subcommittee meets monthly to share resources, strengthen partnerships, guide outreach efforts, and identify opportunities to better support Veterans and military-connected individuals in our community.

Whether you’re a Veteran, represent an organization, or simply want to get involved, we welcome new members and perspectives. If you’re interested in joining the Veteran Subcommittee or learning more about our Veteran Initiatives, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us at info@ccspp.org
